Orchard Updates

Curran Orchard Needs Volunteers and Donated Materials!

The CORE volunteer group is seeking assistance in refurbishing 200 wooden apple tree signs for the 2027 harvest season. We also need materials for the tree signs and to protect eight new trees that will be planted this spring.

Immediate tasks include:

Removing individual tree signs from trees
Sanding the signs on one side, then coating them with varathane to withstand weather conditions
Rewriting Row and Tree numbers with black permanent Sharpies to identify tree locations

Materials Needed:

CORE is seeking donations of 3 feet (or longer) PVC pipe which is 1”, 1 1/4”, or 1 1/2” in diameter (40 schedule thickness).
6-foot high hog wire (not chicken wire), 320 linear feet
64 7-foot tall fence stakes/poles to surround the new trees OR 96 5-foot tall stakes

2027 Tree Adoptions

Information regarding the 2027 harvest season and tree adoptions will be available in late 2026.

About the Orchard

The Curran Apple Orchard Park is a 7.33 acre apple orchard located within the City of University Place. Created as a hobby orchard in the early 1950s, the orchard today offers residents and visitors a multitude of opportunities.

More than 200 trees with more than 15 varieties of apples offer a tranquil place to enjoy nature along with providing food and shelter for birds, bees, small wildlife, and deer.

CORE activities include the Adopt-A-Tree program, tree care and insect education, pruning instruction, tours, summer concerts, an adopter's cider squeeze, and the Community Harvest Day.
